Let's Shed Some Light On Cochrane's Rant....
It does seem as though there are some particularly nasty things being written at the moment, which, if taken at face value, do not paint a particularly pleasant picture of Manorbier Community Councillor Martin Davies. Fortunately, most of the venom is being spat up by Chas Cochrane - easy enough to see through the illusion he desperately tries to conjure up.
It is only right and proper to shed some light on the circumstances leading up to the incident in the Parish Hall, Manorbier, that Mr. Cochrane refers to in one of his Blogs and to dispel his fantastical version of events. After all, he has proved himself to have been economical with the truth before.
Let's cast our memories back to the Summer of 2004. During July of that year, the Manorbier and District Community Association was helping to raise funds by parking cars on the Football Pitch. A much needed event both from the Association's point of view and the Tenby Rotary Club's, due to the fact that it alleviates a huge congestion problem in the village, which the Police are pleased to see, during the evening of the Summer Fayre.
On that evening, certain members of the Association were involved with collecting money for parking at the Beach Car Park in addition to the Football Fields. The collection at the Beach, it turns out, was not authorised by the National Park and a complaint was made by a member of the Community to Cllr Davies.
Cllr Davies finds himself between a brick and a hard place. The person who made the complaint did so knowing that if Cllr Davies was aware of an illegal act and did nothing about it, then Cllr Davies was in trouble too... It was a case of having to do what was right and report the allegation to the relevant authority. This Cllr Davies did.
What was presumed by him to be a technicality, was passed to the Police to investigate and subsequently a member of Manorbier Community Council was given advice by the Police about an illegal collection. Story over..... - unfortunately not.
In November 2004, a local resident (now spouse of Councillor) attended a meeting of Manorbier Community Council. Said resident had a letter of complaint and stood and spoke before the Council. After saying what he had come to say, he left the Parish Hall.
Forward just over a month to Jan 2005 and the matter is raised again at a Community Council meeting. Nothing more than a good excuse "to have a go" at Cllr Davies. Cllr Davies is well known for not suffering fools gladly and saying what he thinks and having the courage and conviction to stand behind what he says. This occasion was no different and he suggested that if the said resident still wanted to make issue of things, it was only right for him to attend the Parish Hall to deal with this matter.
Unbeknown to Cllr Davies, between the time that said resident was last in the Parish Hall with his complaint, and the meeting in Jan 2005, said resident had unfortunately become ill. Cllr Davies had no prior knowledge of this illness. Indeed, Cllr Davies was only made aware of the seriousness of said resident's condition in the Pub after the meeting. This was the occasion when Mr. Cochrane had tried to threaten Cllr Davies after the meeting had closed.
Now we can see the actual circumstances leading up to that evening in January 2005, which Mr. Cochrane is so desperately trying to capitalise on. It does make you wonder what his motive is doesn't it?

Considering the position of Community Councillor is voluntary and the only reason Cllr Davies has put himself forward is to try to make Manorbier a better and more open Community Council, it does leave you to ponder the intelligence of allowing little people like Chas Cochrane to snipe and snide behind your back all the time. Does Mr. Cochrane think that he has ever contributed in a positive way to anything in Manorbier other than making a nuisance of himself with his one-man crusade against the MoD?
It would be interesting in the extreme if anyone out there would vouch for him. I am pretty sure that he will vouch for himself - through all the alias Blog names he has set up. You can almost see the deluge of support coming.
