What was all that about...??

Manorbier Community Council never ceases to amaze me. At last nights meeting, only three Councillors bothered to turn up. Therefore, quorum was not reached and as a result the meeting could not take place.
There were a host of excuses, maybe genuine - but that doesn't diminish from the fact that there were some very important issues to sort out. Exactly what those issues are, will come out soon enough - but the absent Councillor's were all well aware of what was required.
In the face of such important, time sensitive issues, it is almost beyond belief that there could have been such a number of Councillors unable to attend - ironic - coincidental - whatever....
Manorbier Council is quickly losing any last sinews of credibility that it has. One wonders if the Council would be in a position to be able to justify its existence to the electorate? The more one sees of it, the more it appears to be a one sided talking shop where nothing is achieved for the good of the community it is supposed to serve.
Manorbier is not alone in this respect. There are probably Community and Parish Councils up and down the land that are just another burdensome layer of local government, which on the face of it seem to provide very poor value for money.
There seems to be a complete feeling of apathy from the community towards the Council. This is hardly surprising when the Councillors appear more concerned with political point scoring and trying desperately to trip one another up.
Manorbier Community Council has a role and responsibility to perform within the Community and it is failing spectacularly to do that.
There should be no place for Has-beens, Wannabes and Journeymen in Community Councils, similarly there should be no room for petty politics either. When you consider that Community Councils are set up to provide services to the electorate, they have to not only do just that, but be seen to be doing just that. When the situation arises that this is not the case, it can be justifiably argued that there can be no requirement for it.
Having said that, Manorbier Community Council appears to be in serious danger of pushing itself into extinction.
